A Sportsmanship Award is presented at our annual Athletes Recognition Banquet to one Senior Swimmer (age 13 & up), and to one Age Group Swimmer (age 12 & under) who best embody our team's ideals of athletic success. We measure this by their personal achievement through competition and citizenship. The overall performance of the Marlin Swimmers to be nominated for this award will be based upon their individual performances as well as their conduct during swim meets, and poolside manners during practice.
It is vital that our age groupers see our senior swimmers as role models and leaders. It is also important that our seniors set the example for good citizenship through personal conduct and behavior that is admired by all. We want to be the team that others look up to and want to be a part of. We as coaches have a duty to our age groupers to instruct and teach these values as part of the tradition that defines competitive excellence. There will be three area's used in consideration for this award: Personal Conduct, Leadership, and Citizenship.
Personal Conduct of our athletes will be an observation of how they handle their competitive success and failures. When we look at our athletes as role modes, we observe how others look up to or speak of them.
Leadership will be observed as how the individual athlete sets the example, and takes the initiative to promote team spirit.
Citizenship is considered as it reflects on the team at large, perceived by others in the community and around the pool. Is the individual a diplomat for our club, and an ambassador for our sport?
We want every person affiliated with the Marlin Swim Club to have an opportunity to participate in this election. Before our banquet a nomination form will be mailed to all active members. Also the form will be available to print out on the internet (Nomination Form). We ask that you fill out the form and send it back to us with your reasons, convictions, and testimonials as to why the candidate you have selected should be honored with the Sportsmanship Award.
The coaches, and coaches only, will vote the final decision. If there is no candidate that meets the criteria, then the award will not be presented for that year. Award winners have their names printed on a plaque in the Aquatic Center alongside the Wall of Fame and Marlin Team Records.
We consider this award to be the highest honor our club can bestow on our athletes.
